Not sure I'm going to pop the question, furious_blue. The law allowing one to ride on the shoulder is one of the superior features of the Queensland law. It's much safer than lane splitting in my opinion.

Lane splitting is just the same. I feel if you drive in California and you are uncomfortable around filtering you shouldn't be driving in California. I'm sure I'm the minority on that one...

Correct, it's up to the motorcyclist. But for all the drivers who do not like lane splitting around them, it's not up to them in California.
If I didn't like cars driving around me while I ride my bicycle, I wouldn't ride my bicycle on the streets. Logical decision.
If drivers don't like motorcycles lane splitting next to them, as it is perfectly OK to do in California, they should not drive on the roads in California.
