I had a nice talk with my son yesterday about riding and did my best not to preach the dangers of riding but to just have an open and honest discussion about them. He really has given this a lot of thought and is busy learning as much as he can about riding technique, proper gear, etc. I bought him a copy of Hough's Proficient Motorcycling and some day soon, we'll start riding together. I'm looking forward to it.

My son is seriously considering a Kawasaki Ninja 300. It seems like a nice bike to start on. I've always been a fan of Kawasaki and have owned a Vulcan 900, a Ninja 650 and a Ninja ZX6R; all of which I thoroughly enjoyed riding.
I'm also a fan of that new 300. Too bad it wasn't available in 2012 when my son got his m/c endorsement. I bought him a 2012 CBR250R in red/white/blue w/ ABS. He rode that bike for 3 yrs commuting to school & college b/f recently selling it. These small sport bikes make very good learner bikes.
My son is now thinking of picking up a used 500. He's concerned with growing out of a 300 too soon. I understand the concern even if I don't necessarily agree with it. Besides, I imagine the new 300s perform just as well as an older, used 500, if not better. I hope he goes for the 300 and I'm excited to try it out!
