I know a guy who flew to India and bought an Enfield from the factory and rode it home to the UK. Great trip but he had all sorts of problems bring the bike through customs and another set of problems when he tried to register it for use on UK roads. It's probably this registration problem which makes personal importation an impractical proposition. When we buy a new bike from our local dealer we tend to forget just how much administration has been carried out to get it there.
