Here is what you do not see in the video.
The white SUV has just passed the motorcyclist quite aggressively and is just getting back into its lane at the very start of the video.
This is why the biker is all the way over to the right of the roadway, on the white line. The SUV is coming back in and squeezing the biker over.
The biker can see there is a line of cars coming and one of them is panicked and beginning to spin out. That's why he stays behind and to the right of the SUV. He sees what is coming.
The SUV gets smashed all to smithereens but protects the motoryclist.
The reason he keeps on riding is because the SUV driver was a real jerk by causing the accident.
Lucky? In a way, but also observant and skillful. He saw it coming and positioned himself accordingly.
I think the rider with the camera had more of a job of avoiding the oncoming car which spun out.
