Why live, where you live?

Even though I was raised in the east, a farm in Kentucky has been in my family since the mid-1800s. I spent a lot of time visiting here as a kid. Since my father moved us a lot, "The Farm" became the place I felt was my true home. When I got the opportunity to move into my grandparents' farmhouse and start a family 25 years ago, I took it. I put career second to ensuring my family "stability of place" and enjoying a rural lifestyle. Despite that I've declined faster advancement and more salary by refusing to move or job hop, I make a good enough living for our needs, enjoy five weeks of vacation a year, and have traveled the world on work assignments. And I enjoy my work.

We've been very content and happy with who and where we are. We don't keep up with the Joneses. My home is humble and I wouldn't change it. It's pretty safe here...we often forget to lock doors or leave home with the garage door wide open. The climate is agreeable much of the time. Like Blockhead, I prefer four seasons and ours are pretty equally distributed. I love watching nature and observing daily changes in the clouds, sky, and landscape. Life is slower here and one can appreciate the simple pleasures in life and savor the passing of the seasons from one to the next.

Becoming a rider has given me a whole new reason to appreciate where I live. Little traffic and lots of curvy roads in any direction from my driveway. This is the view I have of my property when I pull my bike out of the garage.
