Why live, where you live?

For me, it's always been about career. I grew up near San Francisco but attended university in Denver and South Bend, Indiana. Later, work brought me to San Diego and then back to Denver (with a brief but all-too-long stint in Omaha). Doubt I'lll retire here -- the cost of lving is low, but the winters are too cold, too snowy and too long. Once my career is over and I don't need to keep living here, I'll probably end up somewhere along the central California coast, or perhaps in northern California if I can afford it. Or if I get a wild hair, maybe Portugal. I'm single and have no family obligations.
