Great story, very enjoyable read.
Geez I remember those days Jonny, when the best gear I had was an green army peacoat, unlined jeans, work boots and gloves and an open face helmet with a 5 snap flat shield. I remember being so cold it hurt when my fingers and toes were thawing out. I remember taking newspaper and putting it over my thighs and in front of my chest as an insulation barrier, and I remember staying out later than planned, getting caught out unprepared and riding in miserable cold and miserable wet and pitch black trying to get home before my curfew.
I don't like riding in cold weather, I just like riding, and in Ohio that means riding in cold weather from time to time. The right bike and proper gear means it's not as big a deal as it was in the 70's..or 80's or 90's lol.
