Exactly what I found! At first I thought the screw shank had been glued as well as screwed, resulting in some of the shank snapping off and remaining in the hole when I unscrewed it. Looking in the hole with a magnifying glass, I saw no snapped off shank in the hole. I think you are correct, and exactly what I thought, i.e., they took a screw eye and snipped off some shank length. What little is left of the threaded shank will probably fail to support the model at some point, used as a Christmas tree ornament as a result. On the other hand, the small hole in the seat where the screw eye was mounted is barley noticeable for desk, shelf model use.
