It's been compulsory to wear a helmet in the UK since 1973 so I am surprised to read there is no legal requirement to wear one in some US states. There is 100% compliance with the law and you will stick out like a sore thumb if you are not wearing one . Non-wearers have usually nicked the bike !
There is a group called the Motorcycle Action Group or MAG for short who have protested against the helmet law since it came out but frankly I don't think there is any real prospect of a change in the law .
