Texas Bill Would Close Helmet Law Loophole

Ha! I once heard that, from a public health perspective, people should be encouraged to smoke. The reasoning was, smokers got lung cancer and other diseases that killed them relatively quickly, which lowered medical costs. Non-smokers live long into old age and become long-term burdens on the system, with slow-killing conditions like heart disease that are relatively treatable.

Perhaps if we had statistics, we could determine just how many helmet-less riders arrive DOA and how many require treatment. As medical science advances, a lot of the previously terminal cases are now becoming viable. But that science is expensive.
