Stuff like this gives me the willies!

The driver of the red car did well to avoid the crash with good braking, but made a tactical mistake by veering left, probably because of target fixation. He unintentionally tracked the path of the thing he wanted to avoid.

When a vehicle pulls out in front of you, you want to aim your bike toward the rear of the intruding vehicle. The hope is that you will ride through a clear zone where the vehicle had been seconds before.

The whole problem of collision avoidance can be summed up as: disrupt the flow of events that cause two vehicles to occupy the same physical space at the same time. That gives you two vectors to avoid the crash: 1) change time (braking or accelerating) and/or 2) change position (maneuvering).
Foul language following the incident but this is a good case study.
