This is what I was able to find:- (source :- http://www.hondacbworld.com/ )
The abbreviation "CB" is derived from the Japanese "C" LU "B" Man Race which in 1958 was held at the famous Suzuka Circuit. The "C" stands for the type and the "B" refers to the sporty version.
