I understand that these words might be of little consolation but here goes. We tend to have a variety of friends and acquaintances in life. Some of those relationships are developed early on in life and carry on late into life. Others are short lived, but special in their own way. Still others revolve around a shared passion and all of the experiences that come with that common bond. In this case while you haven't lost your friend, the common bond that tied you together has been lost. Those trips you regularly shared that were important to you are over. It's almost like losing a part of yourself. You could find other riding buddies to go on trips with and while those trips might be great, they just wouldn't be the same. That can be a tough thing to face. I say that it's better to have had all of those experiences that the two of you did only to see them end seeming prematurely rather than to not have had them at all. The two of you really enjoyed riding together — that's what makes it such a bummer. Ironically I consider you to be a lucky guy for having had that in your life. I'll also note that your buddy was pretty lucky to have you as a riding partner as well.
