Look away Stichill, look a-way.

Look away Stichill, look a-way.
Oh, the humanity! Tongue

But when I see a car or bike with plain silver wheels its usually the cheap base model and that's what I assimilate with the color I think. It looks like they were saving money and didn't put nicer color scheme into the wheels to me.

Might be because I'm on the young side for this forum?

Maybe Batman ruined it for me lol?

But the more black the better IMO. Nothing po's me off more then a plain silver motor and casings. Had my 1981 440 motor and cases painted black for that exact reason.

I think black rims with black spokes looks incredible.

I freely admit, it's all in the eye of the beholder. The appreciation for black/black must be largely generational. All the young dudes I know like vehicles with black tires on black rims, black trim, and other black details that are either more or less shiny than the other black things on the vehicle.

In the '50s, '60s, and '70s most base model cars had cheap black steel rims, dog dish hubcaps, and blackwall tires. The nicer cars had full bright wheelcovers, or alloy rims, or chrome rims, and either whitewall tires, redline tires, or raised white letter tires. Also, older cars that may have once been nice were driven without any wheelcovers to hide the ugly black steel wheels, and blackwall tires which at the time were the cheapest tires...cheaper than whitewalls. So, for me at least, there's an association with low-rent cheapness / unattractiveness whenever I see black/black wheels and tires.

The cheapest cars today still have cheap black steel rims, partially hidden by plastic fake alloy wheel covers, and blackwall tires. I see 10-15 year old econoboxes running around all the time without any wheel covers. In fact, the inspiration for this topic was that yesterday I saw an older econobox, black paint and trim, with black steel rims and blackwall tires. Just all black...nothing to brake up the black, no visual edges to draw or rest the eye, just a black color abyss no matter where you look.

Visual contrast is the spice of life, aesthetically at least, IMO.
