While Staintune had been known for good quality stainless exhausts, conditions change over time, and businesses come and go. Almost every '90s Ducati had a pair of their long polished cannisters. Aside from some specials like airhead mufflers, those cannisters were what they were still selling to the end.
Other companies got into the stainless exhaust market, Staintune's exclusivity waned, and their market share dropped. Stainless material became cheaper, design and manufacturing became cheaper, and OEMs started making stainless exhaust standard.
Meanwhile, Staintune kept making those round and oval canisters. But look at the shapes others like Yoshimura, Arrow, Leo Vince and Akrapovic make - interesting, form-fitting, multi-section hydro-formed curves and trapezoidal cannisters in carbon fiber, stainless, and titanium, with a variety of tip shapes in different shapes.
They had a nice long 30-year run, but their demise was their own stagnation.
