Saw this at the supermarket yesterday…
#15
Often forget my key. Not usually worried about it unless I'm going to be leaving the bike for a long time. There's a ratio: Y:X/30
Y= the estimated time I will be spending at the location.
X= the approximate number of steps I am away from my bike when I realize I've left the key in it.
30 = my average number of steps per minute (90) divided by the number of trips back and forth between my bike and my point of remembrance (3).

Alternatively, if I know the time I left the bike, then the ratio is Y:3X where Y is the amount of minutes in the location and X is amount of time it took to get from my bike to the point of remembrance.

If the ratio is greater than 5:1, I will return to retrieve the key.

Also, I most frequently forget the key when using the helmet lock and I can forget it both when locking or unlocking the helmet -- I can't tell you the number of times I've geared up and saddled up only to realize that the key is in the helmet lock.
