I created a spreadsheet for my miles and I add a few things in the "description" field like the temp, where I was going, etc. I also have a columnar log book that I complete by hand that has basically the same info in it, but I write a little more about the particular ride in it.

I'm not as organized about this as Ferret is, but I'm working on it.

I often use an app called "Galileo". It's a GPS tracker that lets you record way-points and tracks your movements while recording distance, speed and altitude. Afterward, you can review your route in map view with color coded overlays of speed and elevation. It provides a summary of time, distance, altitude and speed. You can export the trips as GPX, KML, CSV, or share it as a URL.

Hit the record button, start some music, and go. Galileo runs in the background and uses offline maps.

Well, I use the odometer to count the ridden kilometer.

For commuting and riding around my home I don't care. On longer trips I use my Garmin Zumo for logging the track. Then I copy it to a folder in the basecamp software from Garmin to do some more analysis or to create visualizations like this one:

Thanks Django, I have/had a Garmin Nuvi touchscreen that I used to use a lot when I would travel for work. I had gotten a handlebar mount for it and tried it on my older CB550, But the battery lasted only about 15 minutes on it, and it’s really hard to see in direct sunlight.

It would be cool if garmin collaborated on a smart helmet with heads up display.
