SW Colorado really got hammered this winter. US 550 ("Million Dollar Highway") over Red Mountain Pass between Ouray and Silverton was closed for several weeks this spring due to avalanches, but I believe it's open now. Come soon if you want to avoid the inevitable parade of RV's and gawkers.
And in Lake City, along the Silver Thread Scenic Byway, they're very concerned about flooding and will likely have road closures once the temps warm up and the snowpack begins to melt. This is another great road!
I am planning on riding this area early/mid August during my big ol' trip. Thoughts, opinions? Great time to visit, awful time..?
