Pterodactyl, there's been good rain down Brisbane way, but not so much up here, sadly. Somerset and Wivenhoe are both pretty full. We could do with a couple of solid days of the stuff.

Redbirds, that's a very very difficult question. Like the USA, Australia is a large country with a fairly wide range of climatic conditions. If you wanted to go north and take in the Great Barrier Reef new Cairns, I'd suggest April-October when the worst of the heat has passed and the cyclones (hurricanes) are on holidays. The further south you get the cooler it can get in the winter, so the window of opportunity for warm-weather visits is smaller. Southeast Queensland (where I live), is pretty temperate, although the summers are hot and, theoretically at least, there's plenty of rain. I'd probably come here between late February and May or in September-October to avoid the worst of the heat and the wet.

Further south in New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania I'd recommend February-April when it's warm, the worst of the summer is over and, historically at least, the weather is more stable. I say historically, because the climate seems stranger and stranger to me with each passing year. Or do I mean the weather, Pterodactyl?

When Pterodactyl and I went to western Victoria in June last year, it was decidedly cool on the bike, although the days were generally lovely. In August in the New England high country it was way too cold for my taste.

Other Australian forum members may have different views and it would be good to hear them.
