Having lived in Ottawa for 73 years, milder winters here have always meant more snow. Weather from the Gulf of Mexico or Colorado usually carried rain that turned to snow. Storms up the east coast of America use to followed the coast to the Maritime Provinces. But over the last few years they have come inland and then moved northeast to dump snow over us.
Northwest winds from the Arctic were usually dry and provided bright very cold days without snow in February. That has changed as we got less Arctic air with the change in the weather.
The other thing that has changed is the movement of the jet stream. If we had a cold or hot spell, it usually moved on in 3 days. But that does not happen as frequently now. Although summer was late last year it was hot and stayed that way. We ran our air condition last year more than we ever have before in any of our homes.
