If you think ABS kicked-in when it shouldn't, this could be caused by:
-faulty speed sensor (probably dirt on the phonic-wheel)
-Wheels with very different rolling radius than what the system expects.
So, before going for the wires, I'd check the phonic-wheels for dirt, and I'd also check the tyre pressures.
Also: if you are in a slope, your tyre loads shift. If you are downhill, you must use mainly your front brake (as the front is the most loaded tyre). If you are uphill, you must use your rear brake (even just for holding the bike still on a very inclined uphill slope). Otherwise, if you put most braking effort on the most unloaded tyre, your available grip will decrease dramaticaly and it will slip and trigger ABS. My bet is that this is what happened.
