It made me a misfit in my family of enthusiastic gin drinkers. I’ve since wondered if it’s because I really dislike Indian tonic water. I enjoyed McHenry’s offerings which I drank neat. I’ve also enjoyed sloe gin a couple of times recently.
I’m blowed if I’ll be any sort of alcohol snob. As a former colleague was fond of saying, “I only drink for the effect”.
Almost every person I know that drinks, but not gin, refrains from gin because of an unhappy experience with it as a teen. I encountered a similar unhappy experience as a teen, but I realized in hindsight that it was due to drinking cheap gin. This of course has lead me an adult toward seeking out good quality gin which in turn lured me into Juniperism.
Sloe gin is not my thing, but it's good in certain cocktails.
When (not if) we meet, I believe that a conversation over a cocktail is imperative. Hmmm... so I guess an aperitif would be imperative.
