There are benefits of both ways of doing things. I have to admit I am a destination rider. I know where i want to go, which way I'm going and what time I will arrive so it behooves me to have a room waiting for me. it gives me comfort while I'm on the road to know that room is waiting for me at my destination.

One time I did not book a room in advance. had my wife with me riding a CB 750 Honda. This was in 79 I think. We headed to Gatlinberg Tenn from Ohio. Never had trouble getting a room before, but it just so happened there was a University of Tennessee and University of Alabama football game. We rode all the way to Alcoa looking for a room with no luck and started working our way back north. We stopped looking at the Tennessee border and ended up riding all the way back home to sleep.
