Solo trip West Virginia/Tail of the Dragon

Good advice offroad, the only reason I didn't book anything for my nightly destination is because I didn't have one! My trips are very fluid in planning, I have a general idea of what I would like to do, but then do what I please, and often not what I had envisioned. (Usually I plan too much) When I left I didn't know where I would stay or that I was going to the Tail, I decided to go late afternoon on day 2, if I would have booked a Knoxville hotel, I would have felt compelled to press on for an hour and a half when I knew I needed to get off the road from fatigue, and I would have missed highway 441 through Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Cherokee and the Smokey Mountains which was one of my favourite parts of the trip. Seeing the youth of West Virginia party downtown, the roach motel was a small price to pay for such an adventure.
