Unless you wish to visit Toronto, Ontario - I'd just avoid it ... kinda like Los Angeles reasoning.
Yes, too many times and if traveling by motorcycle, I try at the earliest to approach Montreal using rural and regional roads/highways. Freeway 401 between Toronto and Montreal is VERY boring.
That said, it is not unfriendly to motorcycles, just boring. Maybe the danger is falling asleep. The 401 in Toronto might drive your clutch hand crazy on poor days.
I wish I could say something positive Ferret. Nevertheless, east of Toronto the 401 will get you to Montreal the most quickly.
