Commuting Through L.A Traffic
#8
As far as car stuff filmed on an L.A. bridge, the 6th St. was always the king. I sure hope the new one will be cool looking. I use the nearby 7th St. bridge as my way in and out of downtown, and I stare at the construction site wondering what it will be like.

I'm sort of an L.A. history and movie location nut. Years ago, the L.A. Conservancy did a great tour of the 4th, 6th and 7th street bridges over the L.A. River.

A docent was at each bridge, and gave its history. They also had TVs set up showing clips of all of the movies that had been shot at each bridge. That's how I found about the '68 version of Point Blank. Almost every L.A. car chase scene involved going down the tunnel under the 6th St. bridge and into the river. For the tour, they had relocated a homeless camp and steam cleaned the tunnel so people could walk through it under the bridge and into the river. Their message was "enjoy it while you can, it's coming down soon."

The other jump scene in the video where the bike goes diagonal over the gap in the street is Grand, on top of Bunker Hill. That's the go-to spot for shooting a car commercial in L.A. You have an uphill rise that levels off, with tall buildings on either side. And, you have a large gap in the middle with a road below. The staple commercial is to put a fog machine in the gap, wet the street, and shoot your all new Mazda/Hyundai/etc coming up over the rise on a wet shiny street, and blasting through the fog. The buildings lining the streets give an urban vibe.
