I've since put hundreds (possibly over 1000) of miles on the bike with the cowl and recently removed it and have been riding it purely naked. Well, the bike is purely naked. I still ride with socks and a watch. And lost any semblance of purity decades ago. Having ridden without, with, and without again, I can honestly say that the cowl does provide some, minimal, protection from the wind at speed.
If someone were to tell me that they love the look of the cowl and wouldn't mind a little wind protection, I'd say, this is a great choice. But if wind protection figures high on your list, I'd say go with the Road Comet which still has nice styling (in my opinion) and, by all accounts, offers some real wind protection.
