We live on the Maryland eastern shore, we have deer everywhere. Deer get used to traffic sounds. So if deer constantly hear deer whistles they soon ignore them.

The one sound that gets their attention is the human voice, so if your bike has a radio and you are going through "deer country" tune it to talk radio. I can't swear it works but it appears to make deer freeze when I spot them close to the road.

Of course as soon as I spot a deer I slow way down, because they ARE very unpredictable. Usually there is more than one. Unfortunately the CB 1100 doesn't have a radio. However maybe your second bike has one, certainly can't hurt to tune in to talk radio in deer areas.
