On many engines, yes.
On the CB1100, very little difference.
I cut off the top of the "funnel" on my CB: no appreciable difference other than I like the intake sound. My 2012 Triumph benefitted significantly with snorkle removal.

Mine runs fine with an opened intake

Stock throttle bodies have more than enough CFM capability.
Not much power to be gained on the 1140 motor with stock cams, AFAIK

so the conclusion of my dumb post in the end is this: the owner of the bike in the picture did it because Farkle.

follow up: is there any way to improve air intake in a way that increases engine performance? (along side fuel computer adjustments and exhaust system upgrades)
