Modern Google Maps algorithms will adapt real-time to vehicle operator's path and re-route accordingly. Lesser are the days where it tries to make you go back unless a dead end (e.g. out-of-order bridge) is eminent up ahead. Furthermore, GMaps is invaluable for real-time traffic issues that arise from time-to-time. Maybe not a big deal for casual rural riding, but very valuable for daily commutes. I haven't used paper since the 90's.
