My take on it: I'd call it "retro" but only back to the early 2000's... which isn't that retro to me but for someone who now is 30, this style was the cool thing when he was a teenager.
I don't like the styling much but it certainly checks off all the boxes for what I'd be looking for if the CB1100 wasn't available (assuming it has ABS which was an option several years ago). That is : plenty of power, upright comfortable position, six speed, ABS, decent in the corners and not as big/heavy as a touring bike. Also like the fact that it has a fairing even though I'm not thrilled with the looks of it as there is too much distance between the bars and the fairing from the side.
I'd take a CB1300 Super Bol'Dor over the Bandit any day of the week as the styling is much more to my liking. Yeah, I'm still drooling over that one.
