I rented a Scout for a day ride out of San Fran as part of my bachelor party, did over 500 miles. The Scout is a pretty sweet machine! That said, the only other cruiser I've ridden is my buddy's Victory Vegas and its massive 1604cc engine... heaps of tugboat torque off the line but feels asthmatic by what seems like 4K RPMs. This is not so with he Scout, where its power and torque characteristics feel pretty similar to our CB.
The liquid cooled vtwin is more rhythmic than the typical HD "potato-potato" and feels much more athletic. Even though I had heard how great the motor was prior to riding, I still felt the acceleration was not as strong as the CB. The transmission is expectedly more clunky and a bit wider in gearing, though the engine is responsive regardless of engine speed.
I will say, even having the Scout equipped with a pretty large windscreen, I found the CB to be a more comfortable long-distance traveler. The Scout's seat is very attractive but doesn't provide the rider with any room to adjust, locking your butt into a little pocket that seems to put pressure on your tail bone.
Overall, I really liked the Scout. If I were ever planning to get a cruiser it would probably be at the top of my list. That said, I just prefer the more upright seating position that the CB affords, which seems to more naturally accommodate spirited riding.
