Who has an FJ-09.? Have Q's
#16
The Cam Chain Tensioner is an easy fix, the latest revision should 'just work' or you can go with the manual adjust 'ape' tensioner, but I just had mine open at 16k to check valves (exhaust were all tighter then spec, we are thinking it comes too tight from the factory) and the cam chain was perfect, clutch plates looked brand new, and everything was golden except exhaust valves.

the chain comes stupid tight from the factory, loosen it before riding it home

the fueling isn't as plush as the CB, there is no doubt, but it's adaptable, and there are excellent aftermarket flashes (I have the Vcyclenut flash on mine)

I changed the suspension front and rear, as stock (on my first gen first year FZ) was downright dangerous. (think seventies and early eighties sport bikes before we moved to monoshocks and much more rigid frames) Yamaha has addressed this, but to my (fat) arse, the XSR is still too soft. I suspect that you just need to soften up (reduce preload) on the bike you rode, stiff is NOT a word I'd use for the stock suspension.

I changed the seat Pronto on the FZ, it was a torture device. in comparision, the CB stock seat is a joy. I'm not one who usually changes seats, until the FZ I've never found a bike seat I couldn't live with.

The Transmission gets a whole lot better after breaking in, however, it'll never match the silky smoothness of the CB. That being said, I love the tranny on the FZ.

Rev's quickly? Of course it does! That's its beauty. Remember, it revs to 10.5 before approaching redline, and has all its torque at around 3k, so since there isn't the 'rush' of power one is used to with an inline four as the revs get high, so it's easy to not notice and bounce off te rev limiter. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE my CB with the FZ motor. the FZ just has more grunt everywhere, and revs much higher, plus six speed. The FZ lives at higher RPMS then the CB everywhere. (Did I mention i LOVE the FZ motor?) I truly plan on building a traditional chopper using an FZ09 motor in the next few years, a rigid frame and a Sugar Bear Springer would be Awesome!

That being said, I find it easy as pie to run around anywhere from 20-80+ in third.

Love the brakes,

Put PR4's on the FJ.

(quick edit to add) buzziness, It's not buzzy at all, the CB is far, far buzzier to me then the FZ, but it seems everyone's view of what is and what is not buzzy is different.
any more questions, just ask, of course I don't know exactly how many of these translate to the heavier, slightly differently suspended fj.
