Good point about the fuel strip. I had two '07 F800ST's and each had a fuel gauge, miles-to-empty computer, and instantaneous mpg readout. It all seemed to work fine. My '13 F800GT, which is arguably the same bike as those two ST's, only displays the fuel level when the tank reaches 50% full or less. It no longer has the miles-to-empty feature or the instantaneous mpg readout. I think the fuel strip sensor issue you mentioned is the reason why, though I've read elsewhere that the organic shape of the tank makes it difficult to read.
