Another option: Get a Suzuki SV650 to use for riding courses and track days. Not only do you learn how to modify a bike, but also which modifications make the most difference in traction, stability, cornering, acceleration, braking, etc. The riding knowledge as well as the mechanical knowledge carries over to the CB1100. That's the direction I plan to go, once I finish acquiring the protective gear required for the track.
