It was originally red but the previous owner reported it stolen and the thief had painted it another color. He rattle-canned it back to red (?) after it was recovered some years later.

I believe the main ingredient in naval jelly is phosphoric acid. I have also used it in removing rust.

I'm not sure that it's really a "gem". Pretty rusty frame although the cylinders are clean with compressions. The contacts on the electricals are cleaning up nicely and the wheels are in very good shape. Instruments appear to be original and show 18,xxx miles. Cables are rusted stiff and switch gear won't budge. Slides are free on the carbs but I'm a little hesitant to dig into it further until I find out some more info on these bikes. I'm unsure about what direction to go until I learn more. Right now it looks like more money than the project's worth.
