Been feeling quite nostalgic the past few days. The Kawasaki thread caused me to think of Sam Brocato running 147 MPH in the quarter on a Z1-RTC. That made be think of another 147 MPH run. For those who may think a H-D Sportster to be slow, check out this thread:

Good info for carbed H-D on Nightrider, but I take exception to one aspect of their suggested carb mod...I would NOT drill the slide.

Since there are so few issues for the CB1100, I am back to posting on the XLForum for carb and electrical issues. With 37,000 members, something usually pops up!

May only be sheer numbers of Sportsters on the road since 1952, but common electrical issues with EVO models (86 & up) are:
Regulator
Stator
Loose battery cables
Pre 04 ignition module failure, especially in nose cone modules
04 up crank position sensor failure (less and less each model year)

My 2002 Sportster 1200 Sport (ignition module and MAP under seat) was similar to my 2014 CB1100
~70 HP @ 5700 RPM
75 ft lbs @ 4000 RPM
501 pounds dry
537 pounds wet (3 less than CB, although only a 3.3 gallon tank)

Narrow, nimble and handled extremely well, but after a couple hours at 80 MPH, a major difference with the CB!
BTW, there are even faster stock "Sportsters"
