I guess the paths/roads would have to be reasonably ride-able (e.g. not muddy, large potholes, etc.) for these to be effective during WWII?
I imagine the bikes would save the soldier's legs for when they were really needed.
I think if someone's shooting at you, you wouldn't care less about how rideable the terrain is, you'd just MAKE it work!!

They're a wonderfully simple design, with minimal materials (think wartime economy) - so good that there was, and still is, a market for them. The Honda is far more elegant and nicely built, but it's not as small, neat, lightweight and as foldable as the original. You've got me wanting one now!!
