I get what they were trying to do with an "entry level" but a retro Street Triple would of been great and just different enough not to mess with the Bonneville line.
Have they really neutered it though? I think they have spent a good deal of engineering effort trying to get the torque spread wider and further down the rev range to make it a more useable road bike. Peak power has little meaning in this context. The Street Triple still exists for those that want power and a screamingly high rev range. I road a friends 765RS, a fantastic bike but ultimately wasted unless you pin the throttle and max out the gears, keeping the revs high and peaky. Riding a bike like that all day gets tiresome I expect, I frazzled my brain riding like that for an hour. Not forgetting the Trident engine is the older, smaller capacity engine too.
