Yeah, the lower horsepower really shows when using Drive Mode. I found that all seems to go away when using Sport Mode and/or Manual Mode and fuel economy does not suffer significantly. In up and downhill twisty fun, Manual Mode is almost a must. Still very smooth and fast switching gears.

If you ever happen to carry a passenger on the NC, it will probably never happen that a poorly timed gear change will cause helmets to bash. The switching is that smooth at any engine speed. But if the human body can't take the rigor of the motorcycle anymore, then for sure that is a different issue and has to be respected.

Honda seems to be putting technology and/or getting very confident regarding engine maintenance. I have no problem with that. I could be wrong, but I think there are no cylinder sleeves in their modern mainstream twins.
