Ugly, but a reliable workhorse indeed.
The coldest ride I ever did was on a wee Strom 650. Air was -25C (-13F) and brilliant sunshine. The roads were ultra white from salt. Freeway cruising was 120 km/h for an adjusted wind chill of -48C (-54F).
Cages were going below 60 mph because most of them didn't properly defrost their windshield. (yikes) This meant they could barely see out the front window (and side windows). Nevertheless, I could see them.
I didn't have any heated gear on, but I layered up. It helped for awhile.
The heated grips worked, but they basically baked the palm of my hands. The finger tips still froze.
I was happy to get off the freeway because by that time my eyeballs started to freeze. It was a queasy feelin'.
The wee Strom? It didn't complain at all.
