To check the condition of the points i test the coil side of the points/condenser with my multi meter against frame/ground.
When the points are closed there should be something like 100 millivolts ( 0,1 volt ) across the points,
( how else could you tell the condition of the points? ).
If there is a difference then one set needs cleaning and checking again, usually i clean mine at the beginning of every season
with a small strip of fine grain wet and dry folded so that both abrasive sides make contact with the poins at the same time and drag it several times in between the points until i get the right reading.
Clean points produce a clean spark.
