There is seven of us kids in the family, I'm number seven and Pat is number six. He is three years older than me at 63. The long haul is a bit of an unknown, 6 months, 12 or 18, they don't really know. They just switched his meds to palliative a couple of weeks back. That sounds worse than it is, it really just means the treatments have not worked at ridding him of it and they are going to make him comfortable. He has always been insured up to the eyeballs and he has had all the usual treatments plus a bunch of leading-edge immune system treatments all to no avail. Had he not had the insurance I think he would have been long gone. The treatments have devastated a man who was once a fit and active outdoor guy (unlike me) and he looks like a prison camp survivor, terrible to see. I am not a particularly religious person, but I do often thank someone "up above" when I'm out on the bike enjoying the freedom that two wheels gives you.
