As Cameron's article points out more cylinders have more problem and added to that the required looser piston to cylinder fit for air cooled engines (allowing for more extreme temp variance) contributes significantly.
It used to be that almost all motorcycles were air cooled, now there are very, very, few and they won't be around much longer. Royal Enfield even has a Himalayan replacement coming that's water cooled. Maybe that's why I've gravitated to air cooled bikes? Of the 7 (too many) I have only two are water cooled.
When the topic "what bikes will be collectable" or "what bikes now are under valued" comes up I have to think most any air cooled motorcycle in nice condition.
