On the FJR1300, Yamaha built in an ABS activation lead to the wiring harness located near the battery. All it takes is jumping two pins and then holding the brakes when turning the key on to engage the ABS pump. It makes a few one second pulses. Doing this a few times after a brake flush is enough to keep the crunk out of the ABS module and prevent seizing as long as you flush the fluid regularly. It's too bad that more bikes don't have this service feature.
When I picked up the 2017 CB from another forum member, the fluid had apparently never been changed. Once I put in new fluid, it seemed to cause the old fluid to thicken and took a lot of pressure and fluid to fully flush the old thickened OEM DOT4 out of the lines before the brakes felt like they should. As a result, I now change all my brake fluid annually and then try to engage the ABS afterwards by locking up the back wheel a couple of times when I am almost at a stop. My intent is that should cycle the new fluid into the module to essentially do the same thing as the FJR ABS test harness. Though I suspect the thickening of the fluid was likely a result of two different brake fluids not playing well together.
