I'm another new guy reading up on whatever I can while I search for a nice used CB to buy....
Thank you for the great write up. I especially like the advice to put a couple of ounces of clean oil into the new filter before you install it.
One thing I'd like to add to all the people changing your own oil for maybe the first time- double check that the old oil filter gasket wasn't left stuck to the engine when you removed the old filter. It can easily be missed, and spinning on a new filter and gasket onto the old gasket will not give you a correct seal. Depending on the tightness, you can get a slow leak, or you can get more of a gusher, either not good. Many years ago one of those 10 minute oil change places did this on my car and luckily I was only driving a couple of miles afterward the oil change, because when I parked in the parking lot, I saw a pool of oil forming under the car.
