From experience working for a Japanese car company and negotiating on pricing for our market this is unfortunately a typical scenario. Low volume and many other models and markets to worry about.

At $15,990 plus registration and insurance this was as expensive machine. Here in NSW the 3rd party insurance is also very expensive because the capacity is really 1140 cc. The premium doubles after 1125cc .

Never saw one advertisement or Point of Sale piece in a dealership. The local bike magazines did some reviews and generally liked the bike but not the price. Few dealers stocked them and the inevitable happened.

This is a real shame because the retro market is very strong here for Triumph and others. All the local reviews rated the CB best for power, handling, quality and style.

Last year the remaing 2011 bikes were discounted down to $11,990 ride away. I was lucky to find mine last year with only 1500klms on the clock for $8,500 in a dealership.

The US reviews and what I read online was what convinced me to buy it sight unseen and without a test ride. Its a Honda four so I knew what I was getting.

So far so good I may keep this one a while.

VicsCB1100, great summary of the CB story in Oz. I wanted a VFR750 update and was interested in the VFR800. Went to SCM at Campbelltown and stumbled across the CB1100. They were good about test rides and I took both bikes for half a day each. Appin way, Bulli pass and the hinterland. Loved the Viffer (not so much the VTec). Anyway took the CB, around $13000 plus costs. The last ones went late '13 for $10000. I saw a nice one at Lane Cove with about 3000kms. I believe $6000 would have got the keys.

Back to Staintune. A group order might work. Hard to know what their costs would be and what the market looks like at a Forex of around .92USD. With shipping costs added other brands might be a better deal for our US cousins. At the "traditional" rate of around .70USD the Staintune would look good. Vic, it sounds like you would know more about that than me.

I am still trying to justify, to both myself and the CEO, a Staintune for my CB. Plus PCV or PCFC might be a little overcapitalised would be the CEO's position. But I don't call my CB "Last Blast" for nothing so who knows.

Hope EatChikeen gets his Staintune. Oz needs the export market for what little manufacturing we still have alive in this wonderful land.

Cheers
