The dumbest question I've ever been forced to ask

Tried a strap wrench, which should have worked, but didn't for me. Thought I'd stop by the independent shop where I purchase my tires and have them mounted for additional suggestions. Bob D went into the shop and came back with a well-worn pair of these, identical to the tool in PowerDubs post, above.

After a couple of futile attempts, I thought I felt it budge just slightly. My imagination? Nope .... the filter had actually broken loose. 10 minutes later, there she was, with new filter, and fresh GN4 10w30.

All this frustration for one oil filter!

Now, why would you use 10w30?
