Intermittent Oil Light on with smoke from exhaust means STOP!!! You are very lucky, forget the motor, you could have gone down with oil on the rear wheel. Your not going to notice any short term effects if the motor is quite with no unusual noise.
Like popgun said, remove the rear brake pads and sand them down, if there is any sign of discoloration replace them. I'm sure your problem is not the loss of brake fluid.
