I'd guess that since he was getting sporadic pressure there isn't any top end damage or real wear. And we know it didn't spin a bearing or we be getting asked what the bad knocking noise in the bottom end is. 
I mean really, all he can do is put new oil in and ride it. If it was a race bike he could sit on the couch and watch TV while the crew pulled the engine apart.. The brakes though. That's worrisome.
